Interpretation of Revelation Chapter 7 Verse 5

Revelation 7:5 is part of a passage in which an angel is seen in a vision by the apostle John, who is instructed to mark the foreheads of 144,000 people from the twelve tribes of Israel. The angel says that the number of those sealed from the tribe of Judah was 12,000, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, and from the tribe of Gad 12,000. This number of 144,000 was symbolic of the complete number of people who had been chosen by God to be redeemed and protected from the end times tribulation. The sealing of these people was a sign of God’s protection, and an assurance that when the time came they would be preserved from the coming judgment.
