Interpretation of Revelation Chapter 2 Verse 8
Revelation 2:8 is a message from Jesus Christ to the church in Smyrna. Jesus introduces Himself as the “first and the last, who was dead, and lived [again].” This is a reference to Jesus’ death and resurrection, demonstrating His power over death. He encourages the church to remain faithful, even though they will face persecution and poverty. He promises to reward them for their faithfulness, and to give them the crown of life. Jesus also warns them against the false teachings of the Jews who follow the Nicolaitans. He promises to punish those who follow them. Lastly, He encourages the church to remain strong and faithful, even in the face of tribulation.
