Interpretation of Revelation Chapter 18 Verse 17
In Revelation 18:17, a great destruction is described, in which all those who make their living from the sea are affected. The passage states that “in an hour so great riches is made desolate,” indicating that the destruction is swift, leaving no time to prepare or escape. Those who make their living from seafaring activities such as shipmasters, sailors, and mariners are all mentioned, and they are said to have stood afar off, indicating that they were unable to do anything but watch the destruction take place. This passage is a warning of the consequences of turning away from God, and a reminder to stay true to Him, no matter the cost.
