And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead.

Interpretation of Revelation Chapter 3 Verse 1

John the Apostle is speaking to the angel of the church in Sardis in Revelation 3:1. He tells them that despite the appearance of life, the church is in fact dead. He reminds them that he has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, and that he knows their works. He warns them to repent and to wake up or else their lampstand will be removed. He encourages them to remain faithful and to remain vigilant, and to remember the words of the Lord that he had spoken to them. He promises them the opportunity to be clothed in white and to be acknowledged before their Father and the angels if they overcome. He finishes by reminding them to keep the words of his warning, and to hold fast what they have.
